Install El Capitan On New Ssd

El Capitan clean install on new SSD Hi I searched clean install and found some useful information, but the threads are archived and I had a few more questions. I purchased an OWC Data Doubler for my Late 2011 15' MacBookPro and I would like to do a clean install of El Capitan onto the new SSD drive when it comes out at the end of the month. I was preparing a new SSD (Samsung EVO) by following the appropriate instructions for formatting and partition followed by installation of OS El capitan as is running currently. I then used apple’s software to copy the disk from the old HD to the new SSD and once completed on booting it it is running OSX 10.6.8 and I’ve lost data for approx. Example: createinstallmedia –volume /Volumes/Untitled –applicationpath “/Applications/Install OS X El Capitan.app” Adrians-MBP: adrianhenderson$ Nothing loads to the USB. I would really appreciate any ideas as I’m am installing a new ssd on a mid 2007 iMac Thanks.

  1. Make El Capitan Install Usb
  2. Install El Capitan On Mac
  3. El Capitan Install Dvd
Install el capitan on new ssd

I am using Macbook Pro Mid 2012 13' with 128GB SSD. The latest installed version of OS X was El Capitan which crashed during a Sierra upgrade.

Internet recovery mode worked somehow to land me to install download and install a new OS but it's Mountain Lion, which came installed when I bought the Macbook few years back However, it's rejecting to install on current SSD drive as shown in pic.

I have another 320GB HDD, so is this the only way to reinstall? First I do a fresh install of Lion on the external HDD? What I should I do?

  1. Once the new SSD is installed, and you've created the bootable USB drive - insert USB drive into the Mac, start it up holding the alt (option) key, and select the Install El Captian drive. Format the SSD from Disk Utility, then install.
  2. Trying to install Mac OS X El Capitan on SSD. I am trying to install El Capitan on an ssd for another mac. I am using my girlfriends current MacBook Air 2017. Since I had so much trouble with a usb boot drive, I decided to install El Capitan directly onto the ssd (by using a usb to SATA adapter) then put it into the iMac.

What is a step by step procedure as all I want to do is run OSX on SSD drive but keeping all my older data. I can not afford to wipe it.

However, I did back up some of its backup onto my PC. If I install Lion the HDD can I then download Sierra and create an install disk to update/fix/install corrupted OS X on SSD?

To get the latest features and maintain the security, stability, compatibility, and performance of your Mac, it's important to keep your software up to date. Apple recommends that you always use the latest macOS that is compatible with your Mac.

Check compatibility

Make El Capitan Install Usb

The version of macOS that came with your Mac is the earliest version it can use. For example, if your Mac came with macOS Big Sur, it will not accept installation of macOS Catalina or earlier.

If a macOS can't be used on your Mac, the App Store or installer will let you know. For example, it might say that it's not compatible with this device or is too old to be opened on this version of macOS. To confirm compatibility before downloading, check the minimum hardware requirements:

  • macOS Catalina 10.15 hardware requirements
  • macOS Mojave 10.14 hardware requirements
  • macOS High Sierra 10.13 hardware requirements
  • macOS Sierra 10.12 hardware requirements
  • OS X El Capitan 10.11 hardware requirements
  • OS X Yosemite 10.10 hardware requirements

Download macOS using Safari on your Mac

Safari uses these links to find the old installers in the App Store. After downloading from the App Store, the installer opens automatically.

  • macOS Catalina 10.15 can upgrade Mojave, High Sierra, Sierra, El Capitan, Yosemite, Mavericks
  • macOS Mojave 10.14 can upgrade High Sierra, Sierra, El Capitan, Yosemite, Mavericks, Mountain Lion
  • macOS High Sierra 10.13 can upgrade Sierra, El Capitan, Yosemite, Mavericks, Mountain Lion

Install El Capitan On Mac

Safari downloads the following older installers as a disk image named InstallOS.dmg or InstallMacOSX.dmg. Open the disk image, then open the .pkg installer inside the disk image. It installs an app named Install [Version Name]. Open that app from your Applications folder to begin installing the operating system.
